At the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Caribbean - TopicsExpress

At the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Caribbean conference one of the topics for discussion was Corporate Governance. One of the panelists was Dr. Grenville Phillips and his recommendation was mandatory training for Directors. This I endorse wholeheartedly. We often assume that an educated person understands his or her role as a Director. This is far from the truth. The categories he suggested included (1) Directors on publicly traded companies (2) those on boards of private companies that manage consumer funds. I thought that private companies that received significant funding from Government should also be trained. I believe that many would agree that individuals sitting on Statutory Boards who manage millions of taxpayer funds should also be subjected to mandatory training.
