At the age of 18, I got into political action. Or rather, should I - TopicsExpress

At the age of 18, I got into political action. Or rather, should I say, stumbled into activism. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, and got together with a few college buddies to start fighting indefinite military detention, without charge or trial, under the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act. I took several months, but in the ensuing months and years dozens of activists from across the political spectrum stepped up to help me take on that challenge. 7 victories later, and the most successful movement against a Federal law at the local level in recent history, and People Against the NDAA (PANDA) had taken the country by storm. In the first few months, I wished I had someone to help me understand how to win. I wish I had people I could have reached out to and saved me from many long nights of frustration. In the next few years, I wished everyone could have had the help I did. From my mentor and friend Jeff Lewis, to Stewart Rhodes, to Benjamin Selecky, to the dozens of people who showed me the way those few years, I could never have done it without them. Today, that becomes more than a wish. It becomes reality. I have reached out and found the best people I possibly could, top activists in their fields, media professionals in theirs, and graphic artists in theirs, and asked them if they wanted to see what I did; more people involved and engaged in political action. Did they want to, for the first time in US history, be part of a project that focused, not on the why, but spoke to those who already knew why and focused on the how-to? 27 of them said yes. So this is the experiment. The Solutions Institute. The first-ever activist consulting firm providing advice to activists, and those who want to change their world for the better, at no cost. We have many questions yet to be answered. There are many paths yet to be explored, many ideas yet to be fleshed out. But it is time to revolutionize activism. After all, teams have coaches... Corporations have consultants. Politicians have campaign managers. Activists have had no one to turn to. Until now. Thank you all for believing in me.
