At the area’s newest eatery, friends can sip warm cappuccinos amid coffeehouse chatter, or chilled Pinot Grigios in the cool open air. But first, they’ll have to know where to look. Scott Place Café, tucked away 75 feet from the hustle and bustle of East Tremont Avenue, inside the Shops at Scott Place Mall at 3604C East Tremont Avenue, is indeed a hidden treasure. The café serves up over 30 unique sandwiches and salads, mouthwatering desserts, a full espresso bar, and recently added a drinks menu, including six blends of red and white wine and over 25 domestic, imported, and craft beers. Patrons can choose to dine in either a 35-seat indoor lounge or one of two outdoor spaces: a red-brick courtyard out front or a spacious backyard garden enclosed by elegant stone walls. The outdoor spaces seat 60, with a second garden in the works. In addition to its cozy atmosphere and warm, welcoming décor, Scott Place Café adds a new twist to the local palate. Sandwiches reflect vibrant Bronx communities, including the Morris Park, an open-faced bagel with melted cheddar over chicken salad; the Pelham Bay, featuring smoked turkey, baby spinach, tomato and chopped onions with honey mustard; and the Edgewater Park: roast pork dipped in BBQ sauce, with a liberal layer of coleslaw, served on a soft roll. Each salad salutes a major arterial road running through the borough: the Hutch, the Deegan, and the New England. Desserts, while not locally themed, are just as diverse, ranging from Oreo cheesecake to red velvet cupcakes to Boston cream pie.
