At the last three Lok Sabha elections I voted for my friend Shripad Naik who also lives in the neighborhood of Ribandar. This time there are many reasons why every sensible voter should ensure a resounding defeat of Shripad Naik. It is not just because the BJP candidate Shripad Naik is a hardcore RSS pracharak but because he epitomizes Narendra Modi, the cult which will take our secular nation and democratic values down the tube. Despite being a Member of Parliament for 15 long years and a Union Minister for some years Shripad Naik has no phenomenal achievement to his credit. Despite his lackluster performance he is now desperately pleading for one last term. There is no doubt he is soft spoken and affable but Shripad Naik has lacked the spine to speak out against the wrong policies and vicious ideology of the BJP. He has even stayed mute as a mouse to all the humiliation and sidelining he has faced over the years at the hands of Manohar Parrikar. On the Bhau-Bhai open feud no more needs to be said. The one achievement to the credit of Shripad Naik is that he was successfully able to appoint his son last year to the plumb post of Aval karkun and will now soon be a Mamlatdar. Being a son of an MP or MLA is no disqualification for getting a government post, but the selection needs to be strictly on merit and not based on nepotism. While the AAP candidate Dr Dattaram Dessai is saffron, less said the better on Goa Democratic Front’s Dayanand Narvekar who has suddenly woken up from his political exile. It is no secret that both are propped up by the BJP in an attempt to eat up and divide the anti- BJP votes. There is no doubt the CPI candidate Adv. Suhas Naik is outstanding, but since this is a battle to defeat the dictatorial Narendra Modi by voting for Suhas Naik in the current scenario will only indirectly help the communal BJP. So to keep the nation secular and the democratic values intact, in North Goa there is no alternative but to vote for the Congress candidate Ravi Naik and in the South Reginaldo Lourenco is the way to go to thrash at the polls the other hardcore RSS pracharak Narendra Sawaikar.
