At the risk of sounding show-offy or fan-girly, last night I went for dinner at the French Café, in the private dining room at the back with a kitchen where Simon Wright cooked for us. It was AMAZING and his food was just INCREDIBLE - precise and clean and mouth filling and beautiful and balanced (marinated crab, and caramelised pork belly with langoustine, etc), and I am going to cook his whitebait fritters for Christmas day. (The French Café is rated NZs no 1 restaurant and one of the worlds best restaurants). OK - I concede that was both show-offy and fan-girly, but I just couldnt keep it to myself.
