At their peak, the Hong Kong rallies drew more than 100,000 on to the streets, but numbers have since dwindled and public support for the movement has waned. In DGRs Taxonomy of Action we point out that militancy and Acts of Commission are a necessary part in helping civil disobedience succeed in dismantling power structures. In our book we look at successful resistances of the past and point out that they were comprised of 90% legal protest and 10% illegal militancy. This applies to the American Civil Rights Movement, Indian Independence, Womens Suffrage, and the Irish Resistance. Deep Green Resistance has examined what has worked, and what hasnt worked, with the strategies of the environmental movement thus far. We believe that we need all kinds of resistance action, including militant resistance by those who have the strategic smarts & anonymous circumstances that allow them to do so optimally. We need to take down key nodes of the infrastructure that is perpetuating the industrial economy. At some point in any given resistance, the legal aboveground movement is repressed by state violence, and treated as if it is illegal. This is to be expected, and we must soberly take action regardless. deepgreenresistance.org reuters/article/2014/12/03/us-hongkong-china-idUSKCN0JE0KI20141203
