At this past Mondays Council meeting I gave notice that I will be - TopicsExpress

At this past Mondays Council meeting I gave notice that I will be bringing a motion forward on Monday, January 5th asking staff to examine how we conduct our Council meetings in Saanich. Specifically, I will be asking Council to support a motion that will ask staff to investigate ways to make our meetings more open to public participation at the start. Having more public participation at Saanich Hall was part of my platform during the campaign. I am bringing this forward hoping that Council will consider making allowances for the public to speak (or perform!) at the start of a Council meeting. What sort of guidelines would you suggest? 3 minutes per presenter, 5? 10? I am also thinking we probably would not want more than 15-20 minutes allotted at the start of the meeting for this purpose, otherwise we could run out of time to do our regular meeting agenda. What do you think of this idea? Would you take advantage of this opportunity? Feedback welcome!
