#AtlantaWriters have your work read by local professional actors. As I have been yapping about the last few months, I am creating a new works reading night for actors, writers and all storytelling types. Well ... it is on!!! Feb 2nd 8-11 pm Manuels North Ave. Room You will be required to order some food. This is your price of admission. Please forward to folks you think should be knowing about this. What is it? First off and most importantly, this is a new thing so it will most likely change format, place, time, day etc. until it settles into what it will hopefully be for a long time to come. We will start monthly and hopefully build from there as it gains popularity. Our program will follow theirs exactly (well mostly). If it aint broke dont fix it. Ive spoken with these folks and they say, go for it! For this inaugural evening I will have to accept electronic submissions. Probably for the next couple as well until we get rolling. Heres the program: Writers - you must be present the night your stuff is read to cast your piece. And dont you want to be? To have your material considered for reading: 1) Print two hard copies of your ten-minute excerpt and clearly mark your contact information on the front 2) Attend Reading Night with your hard copies in tow 3) At the end of Reading Night, hand your excerpt to one of our Creative Directors: right now its just me and I am looking for help 4) You will be contacted in advance if your excerpt is selected to be read at a future Reading Night. Please Note: We welcome all forms of writing at Reading Night: prose, solo work, poetry, plays, screen plays, music, etc IN THE NEAR FUTURE - Online submissions will not be accepted—you must hand in a hard copy Musicians may supply a CD, USB drive, or inquire about emailing song files or links to their music Actors 1) Arrive at Reading Night a little before 8:00 pm 2) At 8:00 pm, tell one of the Creative Directors that you’d like to be considered for casting and sign in with them. Stick around so the writers can see you. The writers will cast their piece from the available actors. right now its just me and I am looking for help 3) Wait to see if you get selected. If not, please let us know again the next time you attend. Audience 1) Arrive at Reading Night at 8:30 2) Enjoy! Please Note: Reading Night is an open, supportive, and communal environment. You may show up at any point during the season and be welcomed into the community. Attend a lot, attend a little–we’re always here. Here are some things I sill need help with: I am not keeping the name Reading Night. This is temporary ... unless it sticks. If you want to help me, let me know. If you know of someone who should know about this, tell them. If you have a better suggestion for a venue, tell me. It must be a place where the audience and participants can eat drink and be merry and socialize. Manuels is the obvious choice but I am open to better suggestions. The SAG party at the Shakes Tavern was great but Im not sure how they work things. Manuels is free (as long as you buy food), flexible and easy to book.
