Atlantic Shore won two games Monday to clinch a berth in the quarterfinal round of the Babe Ruth 13-year-old Mid-Atlantic Regional series at Sandcastle Stadium in Atlantic City and Fehrle Field in Somers Point. Host A-Shore, made up of players from Ventnor, Linwood, Somers Point and other local towns, beat Valley (Eastern NY) 9-2 in the first game and romped over Nottingham (NJ) 22-3 in the second game. Starting pitcher Solomon Griffith (top photo) from Ocean City had 3 hits, 2 RBIs and got the win on the mound. Danny Nunan and Sleiter Suriel also had big hits for A-Shore (2-1), which clinched the second seed in Pool A and will play the third seed from Pool B in a quarterfinal game Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Fehrle Field. The other local team, Atlantic West (3-0), did not play Monday but has already clinched a berth in the semifinal round and will play a to-be-determined opponent Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Sandcastle. Atlantic West has players from Galloway, Mays Landing and Egg Harbor Township. Both A-Shore and A-West also play relatively meaningless Pool A games Tuesday, A-West at 10 a.m. at the Sandcastle and A-Shore at 10 a.m. in Somers Point. The championship game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Sandcastle. The winner earns a trip to the Babe Ruth World Series in Glen Allen, Va., Aug. 16-22. Admission is free, the weather looks good from here on out, so why not come out and watch these talented youngsters play for a berth in the Babe Ruth World Series?
