Elderine is close to getting her doctorate degree. She and her husband are very smart people. It is an honor to be friends with them. I said to Elderine: “you know even though having ADD [attention deficit disorder] all my life, I feel like I really have a gift and not a disease!” She agree with me. She said that her experience has been that people with ADD tend to be very bright and intelligent people. She said these people tend to “think outside the box” when it comes to answer possibilities. I did some cursory research and she is absolutely right! One contemporary businessman David Neeleman [creator of JetBlue Airways] said the following: “I knew I had strengths that other people didn’t have, and my parents reminded me of them when my teachers didn’t see them,” says Neeleman. “I can distill complicated facts and come up with simple solutions. I can look out on an industry with all kinds of problems and say, ‘How can I do this better?’ My ADD brain naturally searches for better ways of doing things.” Neeleman acknowledges having difficulties with the more mundane tasks of the day. Staying focused is difficult. To help with this he surrounds himself with people that are good with the details of the business. They also help to organize his day and keep him on track.
