Attention friends who are constantly sharing posts from The Matt Walsh Blog everyday: Im not annoyed. I even take the time to read them often. But I dont understand why you are so supportive of this dudes blog. To be sure, this is not to say I have a major problem with his ideas or that I support things like murdering infants. I need to be careful with my words here to avoid irony, but Matts vindicated, affected, half-self righteous tone is unnerving, uninviting, and so self-assured (e.g., he subtitles his blog Absolute Truths for heavens sake!). Its puzzling to me--but admittedly not surprising--that people, especially many of my astutely intelligent friends, find his blog so appealing. (If you care to explain why, go ahead and give a thoughtful commentary below in the comments.) Hes simply become a clever defender of the middle-class-white-male-Christian. A professional conservative Christian polemicist whose particularly good at exploiting a sense of self-righteousness and persecution complex. Mr. Walsh seems to love underplaying the national power of the Christian right (as if theyre a shrinking minority, which is simply not the case). As a culture warrior and conservative apologist, he seems much less interested in seeking and finding truth or examining nuance than merely seeking to validate and justify every conservative position with less than erudite, matter-of-fact, let me tell you how it is rhetoric.
