Attention horse people, we have a small problem. Get yalls thinking caps on because I dont really know what all can practically be done. I (me, myself, and I) have diagnosed Sandbar (Tinkberbells sidekick and Moos little pasture mate) with being DEAF. It explains so so soooo much about why Tink protects him and he lets her lead. Ive never heard him whinny or anything. Not even a happy grunt at feeding time. Probably because he cant hear himself. Moo and Tink rush over when they hear me open the gate to the pasture. But unless Sandbar SEES the gate open or SEES the others going, he is totally oblivious. Today I walked right up behind him clapping my hands. Only when my hands were inches away from his ears did he look up and probably because he saw my hands out of the corner of his eyes. So I took it one step further. I got 2 pot lids and went out next to the pasture. (They were all sort of hanging out right there on the edge) and I banged them once together so I could make a big noise with minimal movement. Both Moo and Tink jumped and did a quick spook, but Sandbar just ever so slowly raised his head and turned to see what Tink was doing. Im pretty sure this is more than a case of being bombproof and makes sense. So my question is: God forbid they ever get out one day. He wont be able to hear a car coming, hear me call him, or hear me rattling a grain can. So I want to get him something he can wear 24/7 pretty much that maybe has reflectors on it or bright ugly colors, or something. My first thought was bell boots that maybe are reflective? Is there some sort of police gear for minis that show up at night??? Hopefully he can wear whatever we come up with for the rest of his life comfortably and never really NEED it. But then again it could potentially save him. Sorry such a long post. Open to suggestions!
