Attention: insert status about how winter holidays arent for everyone, how family of origin isnt the only kind of family, how when you think on winter hibernation or gift giving you glaze over wounds. remind people about queer & trans & kicked out people who dont deserve pity but homes in people, real ones that believe in more than a hot meal once a year or sad candid of one of your friends freezing on the latest pavement pity project. you hold breath for the overtime workers who cant make it for their kids on the morning when gifts are opened, but they try. type that some people dont have the pleasantry of tacky sweaters & blinking as the family portrait is taken because someone lost a son/brother/partner/lover/homey to systemic violence or to fate. instead the candor of an empty chair is supposed to take their place. so yeah. hanging wreaths are improbable just because. when you remind people its not about being a grinch but merely the state of things and that yes, of course you like christmas carols especially boyz II men & any version of rockin around the xmas tree. you arent a monster. mention this in jest in case people think youre too fragile, then add a witty anecdote about deliciously buttery foods to emphasize your humanity. because what person doesnt secretly appreciate gluttony on the holidays? send people love, warmth, hot cocoa solace in the biggest of mugs. wrap it up with how you intend to go on social media hiatus, especially FB and that after all, snow is ableist but sure pretty to look at.
