Attention members, the admins, including myself, really appreciate and respect everyone who has chosen to make this page their home for Civil War discussion. WE strive, everyone, to make it the best experience you will have on the web and/or on Facebook. We count on you, our members, for feedback and input, as well as for stimulating debate and information we can share here too. Just now though it seems we lost a member, an author named a George F. Franks III. Im not sure what his beef is as he blocked me from replying to remarks sent me in private (if anyone wants to read his rant, let me know) but I want to make something very clear to him and everyone else: WE ARE NOT HERE TO REVIEW YOUR BOOKS! WE ARE NOT HERE AS A PLATFORM TO SELL YOUR BOOKS! WE ARE NOT HERE TO STOKE YOU EGOS. AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO LET OUR MEMBERS BECOME SHEEP TO BE SHEARED BY THOSE WHOSE ONLY REAL INTEREST LIES IN MARKETING THEMSELVES AND THEIR BOOKS! Our page is for DISCUSSION and DEBATE! I do appreciate that a number of our members are notable people and some are good authors too. But what I appreciate most is that they have the humility to participate with us, the little people, in debates and in discussions too. Would I love to have more professional writers join us? Absolutely right! If James M. McPherson, John Keegan, Ken Burns, Jeff Shaara, Stephen Sears or Gary W. Gallagher wanted to join and help make our page even better, I WOULD FALL OVER MYSELF WITH JOY! If a guy just starting out on his writing career with a just-published book wanted to join, FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC! But whether you are a famous author or hope-to-be famous author, THE SAME RULES APPLY! If you do not like it, LEAVE, quietly, peacefully; you will not be missed. Just dont announce it to me with trumpets blazing, as Mr. Franks the third, did. I really dont care for it or the attitude that goes with it. Nor is it necessary to insult me, and say I hope your page falls flat on its face and you debates tomorrow Jackson at Gettysburg till you drop dead. I love this page. I love the time, effort and skills my admins, and the people on it, have put into making it such a great site. Even though we have had issues, I really am very proud of everyone here and how youve made this page grow from a handful of people into this wonderful site that keeps getting better and better. The rules, though, are the rules. If you want to be part of this site, check your ego at the door. If you cant, dont bother coming in; there is no room for it and you here. I certainly will not pander to it, nor do I expect my members to either. If you want to flog your books, please put them on our sister site, Books about American History of which I am also an admin, NOT HERE! Hard as it may be for the tender egos of authors, just because you published a book or won a prize, does not entitle you to special treatment. You can, as I said, CITE your book here. But do not use this as a backdoor to selling it. If you do, no matter who you think you are or how important you believe yourself and your contribution to be, YOU WILL BE REMOVED! Are we clear? Im TIRED of repeating this so Im going to pin this for a few days. If anyone has a beef about it, write me in private, or LEAVE, peacefully.
