“Attitude Adjustment” Phl 2:1-4, “If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. The currency of the kingdom of God is love. During this time of year many will be a little brighter, laugh a little more, give a little more, smile a little more, and experience a little more peace, then afterward revert back to the same old person they were before the days set aside to mark these “special days.” The question I have is why does it take a special day for many to have the attitude they should have had the entire year? So what attitude are we supposed to have? In some circles it would be considered OK to worship during that time and then revert. For many people, buying and exchanging gifts is the most important part, but what attitude do you display the rest of the year? Is your concern mostly for self? Even as “christians” or “believers” or “citizens” or “ambassadors” or “witnesses” or “Hebrews” or whatever you may consider yourself, some have the tendency to only salute those who salute them, support those who support them, be nice to those who are nice to them, or give to those who give to them. But what thank have ye? Luk 6:32-34, “For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. 33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. 34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.” Paul while in prison in Rome wrote about the attitude a Christian should display. Not once a year but in every situation. It doesn’t matter if one of life’s unexpected disruptions, unforeseen frustrations, or seemingly unavoidable difficulties comes our way; our response should always be the same. It shouldn’t take a winter solstice for those who consider themselves children of God, joint heirs with Christ, kingly priest, or kingdom citizens to display the character they are to display on a daily basis.
