Attorney General To Face Parliament Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Frank B. Kargbo The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Frank B. Kargbo, will this morning drive to Parliament to pilot a Bill titled “The Public Health Amendment Act of 2014,” an Act that seeks to amend the Public Health Act of 1960. Speaking to the New Citizen late last night, a senior officer of the Ministry explained that the Amendment has been necessitated by the outbreak of the Ebola and it effects in Sierra Leone, noting in particular that until a few months back, the word Ebola was nowhere in our law books even though it is an notifiable disease. The Act will now enable the health authorities to adopt measures to deal with known disease such as Yellow fever, Cholera and typhoid fever provided for in the Public Health Act in the case of a disease outbreak. He explained that such a measure will include but not restricted to the evacuation of parts or whole areas affected by the disease and the placement of markers on premises to facilitate the identification of infected areas. The Act will also provide for the erection of emergency structures for accommodation in readily accessible places removed from inhabited dwellings. This move has been interpreted as a precautionary measure to allay the fears of the public judging from the history of recent riots in Port Loko and Lakka. In a related development, the Attorney General will also table before Parliament the Public Emergency Regulation of 2014 to wit Constitutional Instrument No5 of 2014.
