Audit Report into Life Sport Programme Laid in Parliament: Serious Findings of Wrongdoing Sent for Further Investigation and Action CHARLIEVILLE:– The Prime Minister laid in Parliament the report of the audit ordered by her recently into the financial operations of the Life Sport programme under the Ministry of Sport. In presenting the report to Parliament, the Prime Minister indicated that several serious issues relating to possible infractions of the law have been raised by the report. Among matters highlighted by the Prime Minister were: · Procurement breaches · Possible breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act · Breaches of Cabinet decisions · Use of the programme by persons for fraud. The programme has been terminated with immediate effect and the report sent to the DPP, Commissioner of Police, the Integrity Commission and Head of the Public Service for further investigation and action, where necessary. “The issues highlighted in the audit report are a very grave cause for concern regarding serious breaches of the law and the practices of good governance and management of the Life Sport programme.” COP Political Leader, Prakash Ramadhar, remarked. “The contents of this report have been referred to several institutions for further investigation to determine whether criminal acts or other breaches of the Integrity in Public Life Act and or acts of serious misconduct, meriting criminal or disciplinary charges being laid, have been committed.”, Ramadhar added. “In light of these findings and further investigations, and the very grave implications arising from them, the Congress of the People again calls on Minister Roberts to recuse himself from his Ministerial responsibilities until these investigations are concluded and decisions taken in respect of their findings.” , Ramadhar said. “A situation of such widespread breaches cannot exist outside of considerations of the Constitutional principle of Ministerial responsibility which forms part of the law and practice of our democratic system.” Ramadhar concluded.
