Audition Notice Gilbert and Sullivans beloved comic opera The Mikado; or, The Town of Titipu will be presented at The Earlville Opera House, August 8-10. Depending on cast availability, we may add one or two more performances the following weekend at Herkimer HS. Music Director is John Krause, Production Director is Chris Bord. Two auditions will be held: 1) Thursday, June 19th at 7:00 PM, at the Seton Center, located behind Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica (across from St. Elizabeth Medical Center). Park in the main parking lot behind the church - the Seton Center is identified by a sign, and there is a ramp leading to the door. 2) Sunday, June 22 at 7:30 PM, at The Earlville Opera House, 18 East Main St., Earlville, NY 13332. If you are unable to make it to either of these, please contact Chris, 315-725-8703 and we will do our best to accommodate you. The cast will be chosen by Monday June 23 (everyone who auditions will be personally contacted either way.) First rehearsals will be June 24, 25 and 26, and after that well devise a schedule based on availability and the needs of the production. The following parts will be cast: • The Mikado of Japan (bass or bass-baritone) • Nanki-Poo, His Son, disguised as a wandering minstrel and in love with Yum-Yum (tenor) • Ko-Ko, The Lord High Executioner of Titipu (comic baritone) • Pooh-Bah, Lord High Everything Else (baritone) • Pish-Tush/Go-To, A Noble Lord (baritone/bass) - Sometimes this role is split because of the large range needed. We will determine this based on who auditions. • Go-To, A Noble Lord (bass) • Yum-Yum, A Ward of Ko-Ko, also engaged to Ko-Ko (soprano) • Pitti-Sing, A Ward of Ko-Ko (mezzo-soprano) • Peep-Bo, A Ward of Ko-Ko (soprano or mezzo-soprano) • Katisha, An elderly lady, in love with Nanki-Poo (contralto) • Chorus of School-Girls, Nobles, Guards and Coolies (12-16 people) Please prepare a brief solo to sing, preferably from The Mikado or another Gilbert & Sullivan piece, which demonstrates your vocal range. (Well have a vocal warmup before starting.) If you are singing something that is NOT from The Mikado, please bring sheet music with you for the pianist.
