Aug. 12, 2014 NOISE ADVISORY: Runway closure may cause increased noise levels through Friday PATUXENT RIVER NAVAL AIR STATION, MD – Communities surrounding the naval air station may notice changes in flight patterns and increased noise levels as one runway remains closed for repair work until Friday. This temporary closure will result in increased usage of the remaining open runways. Communities near Solomons, Lusby and California may notice increased noise levels due to changes in flight patterns. Depending on the weather, repair work should conclude by Friday, Aug. 15, 2014. Additionally, the noise-generating training events scheduled for this week continue to take place from around 8-10 a.m. through Aug. 15. Pilots are training for realistic flight scenarios, including Field Carrier Landing Practices (FCLPs), in low altitude patterns. Low altitude patterns simulate carrier operations that are essential for the precision and safety of our military men and women and the success of their mission. As with all operations, NAS Patuxent River takes precautions to lessen the impact of testing activities on the community. For more information call 1-866-819-9028.
