August 10th 2014 - Vietnamese Cuisine @ MR. RED CAFE We go out for Pho almost every week. I have a nickname, Sida AKA Pho Queen among friends. Heard that Mr. Red is really good so it is now on my list. While they have some of the standard dishes (pho, bahn mi), they specialize in dishes from the North. There are dishes on the menu that I have not seen elsewhere. Thumbs up for the dishes we picked tonight! #5 on menu: Steamed Pork & Shrimp Tapioca Dumplings wrapped in Banana Leaf #7 on menu: Pho Bo tai nam #16 on menu: Traditional Vietnamese Sticky Rice with Mung Bean and Fried Shallots #29 on menu: Yogurt & Coffee Topping in Vietnamese Style The Steamed Dumpling is really good! Its quite similar to glutinous dumplings in Taiwanese style. Banana leaf gives a hint of aroma to the dumpling served in a Chinese bamboo steamer. Broth is the soul of PHO, the broth is a little salty to me but its still good. Rare Beef in good size and the Fatty Flank is soooooo tender!! Sticky Rice with Mung Bean is something new to me! The rice is in yellow color covered by Mung Bean (green bean powder). At first I thought it is dessert like Coconut Milk Rice but turns out not! For my drink, obviously I cannot really tell what is it like from the menu but it is surprisingly good! The plain yogurt tastes really good with the great aroma of coffee flavor. This makes me want to try their Vietnamese Coffee next time. Unique Food, Attentive Service, See you soon!
