August 11th If man’s natural instinct is toward selfishness, as - TopicsExpress

August 11th If man’s natural instinct is toward selfishness, as the architects of the Constitution presupposed, then republican government requires God’s grace. For in order to function, it depends on a degree of selflessness in each citizen. Each must relinquish a portion of his or her individual rights, to strengthen the whole. Such sacrifice, and concern for the well-being of one’s neighbor, does not come spontaneously to most. But under the inspiration of Christian faith, it can become instinctive. As John Adams put it: “Our Constitution was designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other.” Is this why our children are no longer taught that we have a republican form of government in our public schools. Try this, ask 10 strangers between 18 and 40 years of age if ours is a republican or democratic form government, and see what they say. Ask them if they are willing to relinquish a portion of his or her individual rights, to strengthen the whole. Ask them if they know their neighbors names. Then ask yourself is this why some are trying so hard to convince us that they should have freedom from religion, when we know the intent of the architects of the Constitution was for us to have freedom of religion? Is this why the left attacks, dismisses, and makes fun of people of faith? Have you ever heard, or heard of our current president praying for God’s guidance, or for this nation? I have been told that sometimes I ask too many questions, but I do not believe now is one of those times, now is the time we should all be asking questions of our government and its leaders, and pay very close attention to the answers they give.
