August 12th has been a rough day for the last five years, but this August 12th has had lots of great memories. It has been a fresh reminder that life continues on even after we are gone from this Earth. 6 years ago today I lost the most important man in the world to me, my Grandpa! He meant the world to me and our family! I love that even though he is gone our kids still know all about Grandpa and talk about him as if he is right here with us. Today we got to watch Grandpas legacy, Doyle Holland Smith, get promoted from orange belt to light green belt in TKD! This is a kid that was born 3 months early, had a grade IV and a grade I brain bleed, given the expectations of doctors to be severely handicapped both mentally and physically, couldnt walk with out aide until 2 years ago and now look at him! So today Im not sad or upset Im THANKFUL! Im thankful for having the privilege to have known what the love of a grandpa is, for being given 29 years with that love, and getting the honor of having a little boy to name after such a wonderful man! Im thankful for the privilege of getting to be a mom to all of my kids, but today I want to celebrate my little Doyle Holland JR!
