August 23. On this date in 1969 - 45 years ago today - Honky Tonk Women by The Rolling Stones hit #1. Suprisingly, Top-40 radio didnt have a problem with the line I laid a divorcee in New York City. This hit single was a remake of an ealier Stones recording called County Honk. The first line of Country Honk placed the action in Jackson. Honky Tonk Women moved it to Memphis. A third version - on the live Get Yer Ya-Yas Out!
