August 29,2013 . Dear Mr. President: . Here is a phrase - ONE simple phrase I want you to use in a speech about Syria today or tomorrow, as a way to move the world away from war: . "Democracy cannot be and need not be obtained through blood flowing in the streets, through uncompromising battles with fellow citizens. Democracy is to be best achieved with the blood that flows through the living hearts of those who are willing to do the work of building democracy, and one of the tasks which is absolutely necessary to build democracy is to make the effort to compromise with your countrymen; to let them have their day in the sun and their say, and to encourage them to let you have your day in the sun by your good example: to live and let live; to hold on to what you have, and to forgive wherever that is possible. Where forgiveness is not possible, be sure to hold back from punishment with all your might. That is the job of the Lord, and Him only; and in God we should put our trust together to achieve peace.
