August 30th Daily Encounter Wait on the Lord “That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises” - Hebrews 6:12 Today’s Scripture Reading: Psalm 27:13-14, Isaiah 40:31 When we pray, we often have to wait on God for the answers to be delivered. Even though God promises special blessing for waiting, it is one of the most difficult exhortations. It is difficult because we are prone to take matters into our hands. Ours is a society that has grown accustomed to immediate gratification. Due to modern technology and all our conveniences—telephones, refrigerators, microwaves, fast foods, etc.—we have many things immediately at our fingertips. Nevertheless, waiting remains a vital element of life. What does waiting mean? Waiting involves the passage of time. It involves seeking the Lord. It means confident expectation in God. The ability to wait on God stems from being confident and focused on who God is and what He is doing. This time of waiting should be a time of meditating on the scriptures and building up your trust in the Lord. We are to wait in faith and in hope. Complaining, murmuring and seeking human opinion instead of waiting on God stops the flow of His blessings in our lives. Waiting allows the Lord to sustain and satisfy us. It strengthens and enables us. The scriptures tell us that those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength (Isaiah 40:31). It straightens us and helps to build our character because we learn total dependency on God for strength, security and joy. It causes us to praise God (Psalm 43:5). Waiting is a good admonition for those who have prayed and trust in God for an answer. He will not be late. Very soon you will see the manifestations of their desires. He may not have come according to your time but remember that Gods timing is the best.
