August 5, 2013 at 6:00 PM Planning Board Meeting 920 Broad St 2nd Floor I am appealing to my community at large to come out to speak out about the approval of Springfield Ave Marketplace The community is not against Shoprite, commercial entities, or apartment proposal. The community is against how these projects negatively impact the quality of life of community residents. Adam Zipkin and Corey Booker along with the Municipal Council continue to pass these projects without compliance with ordinances for development. They incent developers with tax exemptions (30 Years) without mandating concessions for the community. They continue to give developers free reign in our communities WITHOUT community engagement or input in the plans. What am I talking about a thoughtful plan for development: Remediation of the land prior to construction: Removal of Toxins, contaminants on land, safe removal so that residents are not affected A security plan for area: No plan in place by Newark police nor developer that ensures the safety of shoppers and residents in the community. Due to the increase of pedestrian volume we deserve the same as those going to Prudential Arena. Developers are receiving (3) sources of funding Local, State and Federal without putting any of the money back into the community. A safety plan that includes video surveillance and armed security 24/7 or pay for a police satellite in the community Green Space provided for apartment units children and others have a place to sit and have recreational space Sufficient parking to accommodate persons living in apartments and pedestrians shopping at this site (there is NO off site parking in area) ShopRite loading dock should not be 200 ft away from homeowners on South Orange Ave but rather placed near Springfield Ave where the Conservancy is they do not operate 24 hours nor do they pay property taxes Delivery to site should not be on South Orange Ave already congested from court house traffic but also Science HS traffic the street is too small for this type of traffic This is only a few examples of how developers come into our communities without consideration for how they impact the community. It is up to our elected officials to make the community whole when plans are approved. Development in any other municipality is thoughtful and with community input. This would not happen in Bergen, Mendham, Sommerset or any community that is comprised of non minorities. Come out to support the negative impact development is having in our communities on August 5th at 630!
