August VLI Principle I know that many of you have or are about to embark on your schools LE event, I just finished with both the Tuskegee University and the University of Floridas first year Leadership Experiences in the last 7 days. As I reflect on these events the VLI principle that comes to mind is: Empowerment! Think about it, all the ideas, principles, activities and goals of the VLE and these school events is to actually empower the individual to use the ideas and principles! Empowerment is a key skill of good leaders, not only giving the opportunity for someone to excel, but also create the enviroment for them to have the confidence to reach their potential. Empowerment can be applied from faculty to student, student to student, colleague to collegue, DVM to technician, parent to child. Good leaders become great leaders when they empower others to share and try their own ideas, their dreams, their passions and skills. Who empowered you along your journey of becoming a Veterinarian? Who are you going to empower along your journey? I think empowerment is also very beneficial the giver, seeing other succeed in an enviroment and opportunity that you made available is uplifting, warming to the heart, exhilarating...it make me smile, I smiled a lot at the VLE, enjoying each and every moment when each of you shined! Seeing your post of your successes, your journeys makes me smile and empowers me, what a beautiful circle.
