Aus Open Day 5: Day 5 of the Highlighter Slam and well ... it - TopicsExpress

Aus Open Day 5: Day 5 of the Highlighter Slam and well ... it could be a day of mourning in the tennis community. Twitter went into meltdown with comments of what happens now? King Roger, Federer the Great, the GOAT, was beaten by Seppi in just the third round - the first week. Channel 7 had his highlight reels all ready for next week. The tournament organisers had expected him to be on Rod Lavers House of Fun every second night. Now what do they do? They could invite him onto the commentary team but Lleytons already moved in. Turns out even the best can have a bad day and this was just a bad day at work ... a really bad day. Its just that he hasnt missed a semi final at the Aus Open since 2004. Nike - I blame your highlighter yellow - it made him stand out on the court. Unlike his opponent who was camouflaged. Maybe go for the camouflage next year? At least for Federer? Dont feel too bad for King Roger - hell still earn a fortune from endorsements, but do feel bad for all those restaurants and shops in Melbourne that wont be able to say Federer was here. Feds okay - he managed a smile for the press later on. He knows how much hell earn from all the endorsements he does. In Aussie news, we had a guaranteed win this round as Saint Bernard took on fast serving Groth. Turns out it takes more than just a fast serve to win a tennis match and Bernie won in straight sets. Nike will be pleased - a winner in their neon multi colour rainbow top - you know that one that says look how many highlighters I used! Word must have got out to Kyrgios this was the winning combo for the day. Walking out onto the arena with his pink headphones on, he ditched the my highlighter is running out top he had been wearing and instead opted for the Nike neon highlighter collision top with all the colours - I think he outdazzled his opponent to win. Mind you, Kyrgios may have had some help from Liz Holt - you know, Scott Hastings partner - the one before Fran, thats not Tina Sparkles ... (go see the Strictly Ballroom the musical.) Anyway, Liz Holt turned up and wanted to dance with Malek Jaziri. She must have worn him out - he lost to Kyrgios in straight sets. I wonder if Barry Fife had something to do with this ... Kyrgios plays Seppi next - the one who broke everyones hearts when he took out King Roger. Im sure hed love to have a dance with Liz Holt too! Actually I still want to see someone dance with Nadal in his pink outfit, he seriously would blend right in. Maybe Tina Sparkle could have a dance with him? Speaking of Rafa - he was in no mood for another long 5 setter. Apparently he bounced back very well from what he has described as the toughest match of his life last round. He was done in straight sets this time. The difference? Sleep apparently. Sugarpova also made sure she wasnt at risk of going home early - winning quickly in straight sets, while boyfriend Baby-Fed Dimitrov took 5 sets to beat pseudo-local Marcos Baghdatis. Genie won - the tournament officials will be pleased. She has an army of fans. Murray won - no one is really taking any notice yet. Two seeds fell unexpectedly today - 2nd for the men (Fed) and 14th in the womens (Errani.) Its getting interesting now. Colour of the day: yellow ... only because we wont be seeing Federer in the neon yellow highlighter top for some time (except when its replayed over and over on tv - the way tv stations like to do with bad news stories.)
