Australia unions are urging the country to tackle insecure work as part of anti-poverty week. ACTU president Ged Kearney says 40% of workers are in insecure work and 25% of all employees have pay that varies from one pay period to another. “What’s at risk is an American-style working poor emerging in this country, something that Australian’s overwhelming reject. The ACTU is pushing for the modern awards to include a clause that will allow two million casual employees to become permanent staff.
