Australian Open Update: It was the upset heard all over the world as number one-ranked Serena Williams fell to Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, 6-4, 3-6, 3-6, at the 2014 Australian Open women’s singles on Sunday. Another top seed who got eliminated was Maria Sharapova, who was tripped by 20th-seed Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Li Na advances to the quarterfinals to face Flavia Pennetta of Italy after the Chinese cruised past Ekaterina Makarova of Russia, 6-2, 6-0. Over at the men’s singles draw, Novak Djokovic and Stanislas Warwinka meet at the quarterfinals after besting their respective opponents during the weekend. The winner will go on to face the victor between Tomas Berdych and David Ferrer in the semis. Filipino Treat Conrad Huey is firing it up at the double’s division as he and partner Dominic Inglot of Great Britain go up against Eric Butorac of the USA and Raven Klaasen of Russia in the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles. In mixed doubles, Huey and Raquel Kops-Jones of the USA lost to Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia and Rohan Bopanna of India, 2-6, 3-6.
