Australian University Architecture EDITH COWAN UNIVERSITY Administration Building Western Australia ecu.edu.au/ Architect : Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp “The building’s design and construction reflect Edith Cowan University’s sense of itself and its mission. It is dynamic, different and innovative…(and) locates this University firmly in the 21st century. The asymmetric design, the marriage of wood, steel and glass: they all symbolise our confidence, our aspirations and our outward focus. — Vice-Chancellor Millicent Poole fjmt (in association with Hassell) was commissioned to design this iconic new campus development following an invited design competition. Central to the architectural response was the notion of buildings drawn from the landscape framing a new collegiate space which could be seen, and function, as the heart of the campus, elevated beyond their programmatic requirements to perform a greater civic role. The project incorporates public functions, workplace, teaching spaces, retail, parking and integrated public domain to provide accommodation of high amenity, functionality and security. Vertical circulation is arranged with a generous dimension to encourage movement and exchange. The project has received critical acclaim, being awarded the NZIA Auckland Architecture Award and being Shortlisted at the World Architecture Festival.” Text Source : fjmt.au/projects/projects_ecubs.html Posted by | Charleen Morris |
