Australian-based trainer to replace Snowden Brad Waters - 21/11/2013 Darley Australias managing director Henry Plumptre says the organisation will look for an Australian-based trainer to replace the departing Peter Snowden. Darley shocked Australian racing on Wednesday when it announced Snowden would leave the team to establish a training partnership with his son Paul after the 2014 Sydney autumn carnival. Plumptre told RSN Darley owner Sheik Mohammed would take a keen interest in the selection of Snowdens replacement but he ruled out importing a trainer from overseas. He (Sheik Mohammed) is very involved with all of his racing operations around the world and this is a very big division, the racing division in Australia, so hell be taking a keen interest in this, Plumptre said. Its going to be a local candidate rather than an overseas candidate. I think theres an abundance of local talent in the training ranks here. Well just have to try and find someone whos a good all-rounder that we think can step up and take over some pretty big shoes. Snowden said the next Darley trainer would enjoy the support of great staff but faced an enormous task to put in the time required to keep the large string of horses at their best. Its an extremely demanding job and managing this many horses is very hard, Snowden said. Weve got great staff around us and thats a godsend, the people we have here with us. Just to have that many horses in your head, every time every day, theres just no relief from it. You cant be part time and just do certain sections. You just cant do the main ones otherwise you lose control of the whole system.
