Authentic war built DC-3 starring in innovative Dutch Musical Soldaat van Oranje. At the former Naval Air Base Station Valkenburg in Holland, a spectacular Musical show started in Sept. 2010. Now 4 years later, the show is the countrys most successful Theater Production of all time with over 1,5 million visitors so far and an extended show time for at least another full house year. This Musical features next to dozens of actors an authentic riding motorcycle, a car and as grande finale, this genuine C-47/ Dakota! Inside an old hangar, a huge rotating auditorium with 1100 seats switches back and forth to multiple stages set up in an outer ring. Every of the 14 acts displays a totally different decorum and over a circular road between stage and public, a motorbike rides around at high speed and immerses the spectator into realistic war time scenes. In the final act, the audience is rotated towards the hangar doors that slide open and give a wide view on the outdoor air base platform. The sound of 2 mighty radial piston engines is heard as the DC-3 comes taxiing in close to the open front doors. The scene re-enacts the return of the Queen to Holland after 5 years of war, in this olive green RAF Dakota. This ex- Air Atlantique G-AMCA was long time based in Coventry (UK) as oil pollution sprayer. Since 2000, the aircraft was stripped, abandoned and engines dismantled. ready for the scrapper, but in an amazing twist of fate, she made a come back as a Musical Star, entertaining the masses with its legendary appearance as a true Icon of Victory. Even with the (wooden) mock up props and (smaller size) wheels running on hydraulic motors, the stunned audience will hardly notice the difference with the Sensurround Speaker system generating 15.000 Watts of that typical Pratt & Whitney po-ta-to-po-ta-to sound.
