Author Author City College Coventry Art Lecturer Terry McManus has fulfilled his lifelong ambition of publishing his first children’s book. The first of a trilogy, Under the Stars with Leo-Pard is a full colour children’s picture book written and illustrated by Terry. It tells the story of Leo-Pard, a very well looked after but extremely bored leopard. Having spent all his life in captivity, he and his friends Rocky the American Cougar and Stripes the Bengal Tiger dream of just one night of freedom Terry explained his inspiration for the book, “Before I joined the College, I worked at Jaguar Cars for over 20 years. They sponsored me to go to Belize to study and paint wildlife and in particular Jaguar cats for a series of limited edition prints to raise funds for The World Land Trust.” “I fell in love with Belize’s nature reserves, jungles and forests and it was there I got the idea of Leo-Pard and his friends. Terry, who has taught art for Supported Learners at the College for 8 years said, “I love teaching and publishing this book shows our students that lecturers at the College teach from expertise and passion for their subject.” Terry added, “I always wanted to publish a book for my kids I didn’t quite manage it when they were still toddlers but I got there in the end” Terry will be showcasing his work with an exhibition and book reading at the Herbert Art Gallery in the Summer.
