~ Autumnal Equinox ~ Hours of daytime equal to hours of night. The middlepoint between the solstices. Sunrise at Great North Fest in the great north woods of Maine. In relative silence. And sun. It was still summertime then. I said goodbye with such sweetness. And not just words. Till next time my friends, stay warm. Flat on my back under the noontime sun as the wind danced circles of sand on the flat flat beach and the green waves crashed on the shores of Ogunquit. Sand in my ears in my hair, taste of salt on my lips. And the sparkle of the sea in my eyes. Clouds crowd the White Mountaintops at sunset in Lincoln, New Hampshire, splotches of scarlet dimpling the landscape, foretelling of times yet to come. Ah, and the smell. The tinge of a chill to the air. And suddenly, as if we had forgotten, we remember. The entirety of a lifetime experienced in each day. Each moment metaphor, microcosm of the so-called bigger picture. May I pay attention and be open to learn the current lessons this time around... I arrive home alone and rest my head upon the pillows of my own bed and allow the soft blanket of sleep to envelop me. The dark half of the year begins to creep in and take over. It is time now. I surrender. The shift has come.
