Ava Update Just a quick update tonight, it’s been an eventful couple of weeks since Ava made her homecoming. Simply stated…she is AWESOME! The love this little girl has brought us is more than words can appropriately express. We’ve learned so much from her and she continues to wrap us further and further around her finger every day. Since leaving the NICU we have been catching up on a lot of cuddling and bonding. Our minds are always preoccupied with our Little Giant. We love to listen to our playlists (she really seems to enjoy a range of music like her mom and dad…no joke). As I am typing this, she is in her swing next to me listening to an eclectic mix (Eric Clapton, Norah Jones, Adele, Blackberry Smoke, Zac Brown Band, and John Legend). She likes to be read to (especially by mommy). Her eyes still have some way to go…but she does scan the images and seems to hone in every once in a while. Her tummy time is impressive; she truly is much stronger than you’d think when looking at her stature. This is no surprise I’m sure…she’s proven time and time again that she will not be held back. Ava is doing great with maintaining her oxygen levels and heart rate and will probably be able to get off of her support before long. We will be setting up her sleep study within the next couple of weeks to get a more thorough observation and if all goes well they may remove orders for the support. Ava failed her hearing test while in the NICU and again last week with her audiologist. After a follow-up appointment with an ENT it has been determined that she has hearing loss in both ears. Her left side seems to be what they are calling a possible “conductive hearing loss” which means they believe something is blocking her hearing (i.e. fluid on the ear). Her right ear seems to be the true “problem ear.” Due to her small size the ENT wants us to wait 6-8 weeks before doing more evasive tests. The result could be anything from surgery (to place tubes) to a hearing aid. We will know more in the following weeks. Ava is still tiny in all regards. She is gaining weight at a fairly slow rate. This, along with other test results and a few physical indicators, have her doctors looking at a couple of possibilities and will have us coming back for visits more regularly until we can get a better picture of what is going on. She has been an amazing fighter since she made her entrance into the world and I know that she’ll handle any “speed bump” with grace and will continue to impress everyone with her strength. Bottom line…she is perfect! Thanks in advance for the continued prayer for our Little Giant as we continue our journey and navigate all of the unknowns that lie ahead.
