Available: MUSIC LIBRARY from closing UCC church, Boston area. Im helping a Boston-area UCC church where I worked a decade ago to see if there may be a church or choral society willing to adopt their music library. Theyre selling their enormous building (yes, very sad) and moving into space better suited for their very small current congregation. They have no room to store more than a fraction of their collection in the new space. The anthem collection, about 250 titles, is mostly pre-1960s, suitable for a mid-level or advanced music-reading SATB choir, which sadly is hard to find these days, but thats another story. Some of the style and theology are out-of-fashion for most contemporary churches, but for music-lovers (like myself) who love the body of music handed down to us from previous generations of choral singers, it may hold some value. There are also several boxes of multiples of Messiah, Elijah, Creation, Faure & Brahms Requiems, and some anthem and carols collections (Oxford) which theyre currently holding on to, but would probably donate if youre eager for them AND are taking the anthems. (Local churches willing to loan them back on occasion would also be considered.) We are under some time pressure as the church is sold; as I am the only serious musician and recycler of the bunch, I am trying to rescue this collection from being trashed. (The buyers of the church are not an English-speaking congregation.) Ill be trying to find a place to store the music temporarily until a taker is found. Unfortunately we dont have an online catalogue of the music -- too much for me to take on as a volunteer -- but I did take photos of the spines of the music storage boxes, and could forward the photos to an interested choir director. Id much prefer to have these go to a local church (were near Boston) as the effort to ship it would be considerable, but I would consider driving it a reasonable distance. We dont seek payment for the music; having the recipient pay shipping would be great, but if thats a problem, I would pay the cost. Perhaps you may know of a church in your area who lost their library to fire or flood, or similar, which might wish to adopt an antique choir library -- also adopting, as it were, the inheritance of generations of faithful church musicians in the process.
