Avarekalu/Hyacinth beans/ballar phalli/SurtiPapdi season is on! in Karnataka and its raining Avarekaalu at home.Chile gosht dal is very popular and every household has its own way of making it. Here is my mothers way of making Delicious Hitikida Avarekalu(Chile gosht dal). Recipe: Chile gosht dal Ingredients:- Ballar/avarekai/ Hyacinth / Lablab Bean / Flat Beans / Field Beans (Surti Papdi -val papdi - Lilva)-2kg(peeled and deskinned) Oil-5tbsp Mutton-750gms Onion-2(thinly sliced) Ginger garlic paste-3tbsp Red chilli powder-3tbsp Turmeric powder-1 1/4tbsp Clove,cardamon,cinnamon-1 Coriander-a handful(chopped) Green chilli-6-7(length wise spilt) Tomato-7-8 Coconut-1cup Tamarind pulp-4tbsp Salt-as per taste Method:- How to deskin beans: 1.Soak fresh (peeled) beans in hot water for 2-3 hours. Remove water from the beans and hold the bean between two fingers and de-skin it. The action is that of snapping your finger with a bean between your fingers.keep aside. 2.then now first grind coconut,tomato,clove,cardamon,cinnamon and coriander.keep aside. 3.now heat oil in a pressure cooker add onion fry till turns golden brown. 4.add ginger garlic paste.saute well to get an aroma. 5.add mutton,green chilli and deskin ballar beans.mix well cook for 2 minutes. 6.add red chilli powder,turmeric powder and salt mix well.cook till oil leaves from sides. 7.then now add ground paste and tamarind pulp.mix well. 8.add 2 cup of water and mix well. 9.close and cook for 3-4 whistle according to tenderness of meat. :-Serve hot with plain rice or chapati.
