Award Winning Composer Jeff Beal Receives Two Emmy Nominations for Netflix’s House of Cards Beal nominated for Outstanding Music for a Series & Outstanding Main Title Theme (West Hollywood, CA) July 19, 2013—Award winning composer Jeff Beal receives two Emmy nominations for Netflix’s House of Cards; Outstanding Original Music for a Series and Original Main Title Theme for a Series. Marking his tenth and eleventh Emmy nomination, Beal creates an ominous score, with jazz influences for the transcendent series starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. Debuting in February as Netflix’s first original series, all 13 episodes of Season One were released at once, turning the typical model of TV production upside down. The House of Cards two-disc score album is available on Varèse Sarabande Records. Beal is currently scoring the second season of House of Cards. House of Cards follows House Majority Whip Frank Underwood (Spacey), a strong-willed, power-hungry Democrat from South Carolina set on conquering Washington D.C. alongside his wife, Claire (Wright). Beal wrote the dramatic score, setting the tone for the tyrannical Frank Underwood. The theme song for the show is heavily trumpet and piano based, instruments of which Beal called upon himself to play for the show’s introduction. “The direction I was inspired to follow when watching the show was to approach the project as if I were scoring a film as opposed to a weekly series,” explained Beal. Jeff Beal is an award-winning composer for film and television. Beal scored three films which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Blackfish, The Battle of amfAR, and When I Walk, in addition to the premier of He’s Way More Famous than You at this year’s Slamdance Film Festival. Beal’s film and television credits include The Queen of Versailles, Appaloosa, Pollock, Door to Door, The Passion of Ayn Rand, HBO’s Rome, ABC’s Ugly Betty, and the theme and underscore for USA’s hit series Monk.
