Award recognizes volunteer work by Missouri Seniors JEFFERSON CITY – Missouri Lt. Governor Peter Kinder today announced 34 winners of the Lieutenant Governor’s Senior Service Award, including Harold “Gene” Maier of Boonville. Lt. Governor Kinder presented the awards today (May 6) at a luncheon for the winners and their guests outside his office in the Capitol. Maier was nominated by Meghan McClellan, administrator at the Boonslick Senior Center in Boonville, where Maier has volunteered for years. “For over 20 years, Gene has helped feed our homebound community, and without his help these individuals would be without the assistance and food they desperately need,” said McClellan in her nomination. In March alone, Maier delivered more than 800 meals to homebound seniors within a 60-mile radius of the center, McClellan said. Kinder said Maier goes “above and beyond” his delivery duties. “Harold is a friend to all and is a positive asset to homebound seniors and the Boonville community,” he added. Lt. Governor Kinder presented Maier with an official declaration and a Senior Service Award lapel pin at a ceremony in the Capitol. Kinder has given Senior Service Awards every year since he took office in 2005. “Gene Maier sets an example for all Missourians with his willingness to serve seniors in the Boonville area,” Kinder said. “His selfless service is an inspiration to all who know him.”
