Awareness can have profound impacts upon peoples decision making and reaction processes. Another anecdote from the (cycle)path®: Yesterday while in the process of summiting a small mountain, someone honked at me, rather rudely, for using up the entirety of the right lane. She provided me with such a start, that I leapt off of my bike, turned around, looked her right in the eye, and waved as she drove by. Truth be told, it had not been my initial reaction to offer her such a friendly gesture, but at the moment I caught her gaze, I saw that she was an actual person, and could tell that the same thought had occurred to her as well. Her face showed a sort of startled flustrated® shame at the realization that other people are also PEOPLE too. Wonder of wonders, why does this not occur to us more often?
