Awesome Place, Awesome People Jyoti Ranjan Sahoo (Batch of 2003-04), jyotee.iitk@gmail, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur This is not the general opinion, but most of us share quite similar experience. For them, who might presume it to be provocative, discouraging or disparaging, pardon me in advance. I started pretty bad at school. My parents still tease me for my complete failure at entry level (prarambha) interview back in 1992. Till I was in class-4, I was unable to understand what the teachers used to do at school or why they need to run a school, at first place. Other than friends, everything else appeared too boring, disgusting and frightening to me. But suddenly I woke up one fine morning to find rhythm in studies. Good was being bestowed, finally. My neighborhood expanded from friends to seniors and teachers. My school is never the best but then again, I found it to be the best place on earth. For, nothing is best until it is worth what it stands for. It woke me up and it made me confront the world that was too terrifying for it was too competing in nature. It prepared me to run, or to try to run very well, if not ahead. I believe, everyone is blessed with equal quality and quantity of brain, But this is the place where we learnt how to use it. Of course life has its own plans. I wanted to be a doctor and ended up in engineering at IIT and only He knows, where and what I would be doing tomorrow, but I am no longer scared of tomorrow. Because, the process of overcoming our fears had started long back in this place, our school. School-friends are always special, they will be forever. Games like ‘cricket using handkerchief’, ‘bunking prayer class’, ‘searching the snakes’ and so on are simply unforgettable. Not less special are my teachers. Though, I have the privilege of been scolded by almost every teacher in school. My first teacher, Sulabh Guruji will always acquire the broadest space in my heart. He never gets angry and that’s why he made every kind of kid around him to like him. And Brajabandhu Guruji, he’s just incredible. How cool he is! It was his inspiration which made me rediscover myself to do things which I was best at. It would be a sin to forget the most affectionate Monalisha Guruma. This list will never end, but be it their love or scolding; their influence in our lives is never ignorable. And who can forget famous dialogues “Aluchash (potato cultivation)” of Bhajakrushna Guruji and “Tu Somabar aas (come on monday)” of Deba Guruji! This is the place, where we tasted our first success and first failure and learned how to maneuver it. This is the place, where we got our first friend and first lesson in relationship, where we fell for our first crush and experienced the first heartaches..... We learnt here, when to hide and when to enlighten, how to be rhetoric and how to shut up, why to malign the antagonists and why to benign the nice ones and when to be equivocal and when to stand alone dignified. This is the place, which still consumes the most significant amount of our brain and carries titillating memories forever. This place is awesome. This awesome place made us the awesome people, or at least, made us think like that. N.B.-#Copyright Article, please do not try the same at home ;)
