Awesome Spark and please check out the charity listed below! Love David Dave, I am so happy I found your site. It is like my morning energizer and gets me going and lifts my spirit. From a young age, my father taught me to leave something better than when I found it. I try to do this. I have had a problem with depression since losing my husband to cancer in my early 30s many years ago, leaving me to raise 2 children. I also lost a brother in a car accident just 2 months before my husband died . Soon after I had another brother murdered. (My mother died when I was 11 leaving 7 children ages 18 months to 13 years. My father died when I was 26.) I decided to help others to assist me to cope with this loss. Every day I try to do something. It may be simple like making a phone call to someone in need or writing a letter of appreciation to someone whose flower garden or Christmas decorations I noticed while driving around town. (If it is dark I may have to return in the morning to note the address.) I may send a sympathy card with a book of stamps as I know they will be needed. I may make cookies or give Popsicles to the children in my neighborhood. Once on Valentines Day, mylar heart balloons were 50¢ so I bought several and took them to the elderly widows in my neighborhood. I have taken homemade bread and rolls to my neighbors. One neighbor and his brother are raising 3 children. I e-mailed him simple recipes when he said he was running out of ideas of what to cook. At church I carry crayons and paper and give them to parents around me who are having problems with their children. At funerals when I hear a eulogy, I hope the person knew in life all the good things said. I send cards to people letting them know these sorts of things and how they are appreciated. I like to carry around two dollar bills and give them out when I am inspired to. I am disabled and on a limited income, but I figure I cant take it with me. I belong to Operation Paperback ( check it out at operationpaperback.org/ ) which is a non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Pennsylvania that collects gently used books nationwide and sends them to American troops overseas as well as veterans and military families here at home. I dont do these things for the praise of the world, I truly am concerned about others and want to make the world a better place one small deed at a time. Dave keep up the good work. You are appreciated and you have started a wonderful and glorious movement that really matters.
