Awesome weekend!!!! This years USPA Georgia State Meet was off the chain! I have to thank so many people. If I leave someone out please forgive me. First off I have to thank Angela Bivens my wonderful girlfriend for all that she did this weekend. She handled all the paper work and emails. Then she worked side by side with me on Friday helping me set up the meet and with weigh ins. Then helped tear down everything knowing she had heavy squats on Sunday. After all that she had a great squat workout Sunday afternoon. I have to thank Sonia French for allowing us to use her gym to host powerlifting meets. Shes always take care of us and always has what I need whether its food or anything. She always has our back. And she knows we have hers. Sonia is the bomb. A huge thanks to Josh Rohr for doing everything. He is truly the best friend anyone can have. He is the most unselfish person I know. A huge thanks to the spotters and loaders. David Goodwin who has been there since day one. He has to be the most dependable guy I know. He has never let me down. Thank you Dan Sturm for busting your butt. Thanks Lara Sturm for letting me borrow him for a full day. Let me know when you need me at your meets, Ill be there. Big ups to Dale McLaren who stepped in when a couple of my spotters did not show up. He was awesome! Every time I tried to relieve any of them they would say no. They worked there tails off all day. A special thanks to Jeff Robison and Lis Saunders for announcing and working the computer for as long as they could. They did a fantastic job! Big big ups to Alicia Webb one of my star Lifters for helping me all day by doing whatever she could to help. Thanks Le! Id like to thank Erin Cookee Cooke for helping Angela at the front and then at the scores table. Id like to thank all of the judges: Bob Lovelace, Anthony Barnett Calhoun, and Dave Mathewson. Thanks James PB Searcy for bringing your team and for you & Tyler helping spot despite having a heavy heart. Thanks Michael Howell and your guys for staying and helping with breakdown after lifting. I met a few new people and talked to a lot of people I already knew, you know who you are. I really enjoyed talking to everybody. There is so much more to mention, but Id be here all night. Id like to bring up a few highlights of the meet, at least for me anyway. First, Wil Bass in his first meet kicked butt. After going through so much with him and watching him grow, I cant begin to describe all of my feelings and thoughts on how much hes progressed and how proud I am of him. He did a fantastic job. Im so proud of you Wil. Next is Chip Edalgo who was the last lifter of the day. Last year, Chip lifted at one of our meets and had a very rough time getting some of his lifts passed. He was really upset and I felt really bad for him. Even though I may feel bad for a lifter, it has to be done under the rules. As a meet director, for me anyway, Id like to see every lifter get every attempt and never have to see or press a red light, but we all know thats impossible. I reached out to Chip many times after his bad meet. We kept in contact and Id have to say that Chip did his homework and came prepared. I was extremely proud of him. His last pull of the day was the biggest highlight of the meet for me and probably many others. He was getting ready to do his last pull. As I was mixing the music, I looked over at James and asked what to play for Chip. James didnt really know. Unintentionally, I put on Turn Down For What by Lil Jon, not meaning anything by it. As Chip slowly locked out, you hear the words turn down for what...it was just absolutely perfect. Perfect song for a perfect lift. Thanks to all of the lifters, you all did an amazing job. The plan is to have the next meet in October, though its not official yet. Until next time...TURN DOWN FOR WHAT.
