BACK IN 1997... This is probably the PINKEST and KITSCHEST article BBC MUSIC MAGAZINE ever published. Consequently, I rate it as another modest achievement. Of course, Radio 3 now interviews the likes of Neil Sedaka, has a weekly film music show and even plays Abba, but in those days, when I presented a film music edition of Radio 3s flagship show COMPOSERS OF THE WEEK we had letters complaining that the barbarians were at the gate simply for playing the likes of Max Steiner and Erich Wolfgang Korngold. The old Kenny Everett joke involving a corpse was still very relevant: Miss Jones, will you please drag that dead body over to Radio 3. No one will notice it there.
