BACKGROUND OF HULAGWAY DOS Last October 18, 2013, the Hulagway sub-project of the Pagbantog-HIV first made its announcement in furthering the crusade for HIV and AIDS global awareness. As in recently taking Northern Mindanao by its clutches, HIV and AIDS have claimed lives and will soon be taking more if not for supportive plans that would prevent if not entirely stop its growing numbers. This is where Pagbantog Kagay-an took its cue. Hulagway – is a Visayan word equivalent for face or imagery. It is born from creative minds, creative hands, and most importantly creative hearts.” The 71 photos was unveiled during the opening programme in the morning of December 1st at the Limketkai Rotunda. Cagayanons not au fait to the spotlight of the media have bravely stepped up to the challenge to express their support for the message that Pagbantog-HIV is preaching and will surprisingly be seen posing a la professional models. The original team were : the volunteer photographers; Glenn Palacio, Jessie Villegas, Ed Abella, and Bon Jumawan, makeup artists; Dandy Roa and Ryan Sy and prime movers/conceptual stylists Stephen Christian Quilacio and Arlyn May Baqui-Bongay as Chairpersons. The Hulagway shoot for a cause made a mark to Kagay-anons, thus the group decided to do it again. Their was a series of concepts and then they decided to become an organization by May 2014 and thus HULAGWAY Dos came in. They made a cameo thru social media with the help of Outrage Magazine for the International Aids Candlelight Memorial celebration this year. As the name goes, Hulagway DOS is the second year, the second time, and the second attempt to propagate advocacy through artistry by a group of the same name. Like in 2013, even more so now that the group is seen to push the frontier in their advocacy by putting forth more provocative means .Added to the category this year were Champion and Working Advocates in the country. The concepts were based on original concept which is RED , red ribbon for professionals, Red paint for artist and red make up for Local celebrities. This year , DOS focus on body forms and how artistry can express a message through this cause. The group started shooting last June 2014 , headed by HMUA Hale Demetrio and Advocate Hulagway Co-Chairperson Stephen Quilacio. It is a donation base shoot and proceeds to NorMA ( Northern Mindanao Advocates Society ), a nonprofit care and support group organization which aims to provides a program for care & support among PLHIV & their affected families in Mindanao. It must be understood that all of the work that has come through are built on volunteerism. Nobody had to be paid to come forward and help. They just helped because they want their thoughts, their art, their words to be sent out there because they are standing up for a friend, a family, a loved one who may have succumbed to HIV and AIDS.
