BAFANA Bafana goalie and captain Itumeleng Khune is the latest - TopicsExpress

BAFANA Bafana goalie and captain Itumeleng Khune is the latest victim of cellphone fraud. On Monday, several SMSes were sent to his friends and family saying that he needed money. At the time he was in training. The fraudsters apparently knew he was in training and had no access to his family and friends outside camp. On Monday, a family friend responded to the fake SMS and paid R8000 into the account. Khune told Daily Sun: “It is sad that when one gets called up for Bafana, some people see it as an opportunity to swindle our relatives and friends out of their hard-earned money. “I know a dozen other players experiencing the same thing. “I stopped using that number as soon as I got back from Ethiopia in June. “People need to drop this lazy culture of wanting easy money at the expense of others.” His attorney, Chris De Agrella said: “My client has been the victim of the mentioned scam for the past couple of months. “How the scam works is that his contacts have been sent an SMS saying he is in desperate need of money because a family member is in hospital. “They then provide a bank account where the money must be sent and the scam artist fraudulently uses international gateways to make it appear that the SMS is indeed coming from Khune.” Other soccer players who are also victims of the scam include Katlego Mphela and Siyabonga Nomvethe.
