Dastak , a film by Rajinder Singh Bedi , with lyrics by Majrooh Saab, started in mid 60s , but took a while to complete due to financial issues.. by the time it released in 70, the era of Black and White movies was over and the film was not well received. However, the performances and music were much appreciated and the lead pair , Sanjeev Kumar and Rehana Sultan, as well as Madan Mohanji won the National award . By then Madanji was disenchanted with awards , as he had never won a popular award before, despite being nominated often .. he initially refused to got to Delhi to attend the ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan. till Sanjeev Kumar coaxed him to do so. The songs, Mai Ri Main Kase Kahoon , Hum Hain Mataaye Koochao, Tumse Kahoon Ek Baat, were appreciated by music connoisseurs. ‘ Baiyan na Dharo] based on Raag Charukeshi, and sung by Lataji earned Madanji a lot of appreciation even from the masters of classical music. Madanji adapted a ‘ bandish ‘ and changed the composition completely for the film..Rais Khan ,played the sitar in his characteristic style,.
