BAKCHU Just out of the boredom on her train journey, a friend of mine opened up a group account on Whats App which eventually resulted in a couple of us getting together for Bapuji’s birthday. The grand day was much awaited by the four of us with batted breaths, numbness, queasiness. The uncontrolled energy emanating with every road blockages was just too much to handle until the three finally met at Melli - the crossroad n headed up to Darjeeling. The drive from thereon till we reached the destination to meet our Big Boss was not felt at all especially by me, the kawali-wallah. So you see the intensity strong. The trio got so lost in the transition from womanhood to childhood that we almost reached Kurseong instead (the driver was lost to see d wild side) but all thanks to Rach who in her “highest of spirits” after the wait at Melli observed that we were heading in the wrong direction. About turn it was, by which time Big Boss had given up on us and when we reached finally, she looked more haggard and tired than we were….waiting, waiting and waiting. Once there, the scream silenced her locality with each and every passerby greeting us and asking her “ab aa gaya tumara friend logh!!!” Commotion, Chaos after that, to each his own – Big Boss co-ordinating, me trying to find a safe and sound parking space, Rach appreciating each and every corner of Vinita’s den, Sriju lost in her thoughts over her baba (pun intended….for that matter even Rach also kept mentioning about her baba, GOD KNOWS which baba now). Once settled over a cuppa of good refreshing Marwari tea, got introduced to two lovely daughters of Vinita, VIDI n KASHISH. Love you both and thank you for the toffee, batamizzz aunties (instead of giving, happily accepting). Then came the planning for how well to spend the worthy night which commenced with the commotion turning into havoc – hue and cry all over the streets of Darjeeling…. me tracing the driver, Sriju handling Vidi, Vinita arranging things for all the time that she’s gonna be with us, Rach treating her cold. Finally we landed in D Park all settled for the reunion with Hot Toddy, Mojito and Black Berry…..phew…..what a long day it was. An hour spent at the maximum but the echo that we produced was well evident from the looks of the other customers as we headed out the hotel. The night was still long so as we settled in the hotel, I got introduced to the game of TEEN PATTI. In the world of Gambling, they say luck always favours the beginners so the table was mine fellas BUT my win all shoo….ed away with a mere wink from the Big Boss who asked me to throw my BAKCHU away leaving me with nothing but a TENer. That tenner that was used for buying hajmolas which helped us digest the final stage of our reunion. And to top it all, we were playing a game of cards with the incomplete number of cards and a pack of cards without sequence. When we objected to it, prompt came the reply….Majja Aa Raha Hey Na by non-other than Big Boss!!! Big Boss was also the culprit for the bottle of sprite (now let that be there or else I have had it, the next time I meet her). It was 12.30 by now and we wanted to go strong but Vidi was still awake waiting for her mommy. So just for Vidi, we decided to call it a night. The next morning, we weren’t refreshed as much as Her Royal Highness was. Walked in our pyjammas to Vini’s den for a cup of hot tea and drinking a Marwari tea in a big Mug was awesome, just too awesome in fact, coupled with yummy paranthas and aam ka acchar, oh chola too. Back to business after that, we decided to go shopping and woof what a shopping it was. The streets were crowded, malls were suffocating and it was drizzling. The hallmark of the event was the shopkeeper not allowing the customers in A… N… D nearly getting kissed by a handsome hunk unintentionally of course. But the cardigan shop was ransacked for sure. With the clock ticking, time to part ways was getting nearer. The trip which each one of us were skeptically looking forward to was over and done with; with each one of us looking forward to another such reunion. Had there been no strike, we would have rocked yet another day. Life has to move on but this was one chapter that shall always be cherished. Much thanks to Habebe, RO, Satish and Neeraj for making it happen!!!
