BALOON POWERED RACE CAR 1. How to attach the balloon to the car. I think a net would work, but the net would have to be light and stretchy. You could make something from rubber bands tied together or maybe a woman’s nylon stocking. Either way you could attach the net to the car with string or nylon cable ties. Of course the balloon would be inside the net. 2. The car would need to be heavy enough so that as the air escaped from the balloon the car would not go spinning wildly out of control. You’ll need to figure out some way adding or subtracting once you get the car working. Perhaps you could use large steel washers or nuts, say for ½ inch diameter bolts. These could be taped to the frame/chassis. 3. To make some sort of nozzle like is used on a rocket to make the car go straight and not waste air from the balloon by letting it go all at once. The nozzle has to fastened to the car. I think it should long to extend out past the back end of the car by two or three inches for two reasons: 1) so the stream of air is very straight as it escapes the nozzle 2) so you can easily blow up the balloon. A straw might work, but it will difficult to seal the balloon to a straw. Perhaps a piece metal or plastic tube just large enough to fit into the end of the balloon. Let’s say you got all of these problems solved and your balloon car moves in a straight line but you want to increase the distance it travels. Assuming that the air from the net balloon is escaping too fast’ You will need a valve on the net nozzle that allows you to control the net amount, or rate, of the net air so you can increase the net distance travelled by the net car. This would the most difficult part of the project. I can only suggest that you have different sized nozzles so you can experiment with what works best. Kind of like experimenting with the weight of the car.
